Sunday 3:47 am - Spc. Ronald Cherry posted a message in our VFWonline Yahoo Group area:

"Hi. I'm Spc. Ronald Cherry. I'm currently serving in Iraq 101st and have placed a personal mission, small but it's something, upon myself to improve the quality of life for myself and other soldier's here with me. We have a rec center with a pool table, but the pool table is slapped together, in shambles and falling apart....."

THE POWER OF THE INTERNET

Spc. request was verified and went out to our Groups and Email lists.
Responses came in from around the world.

What happened next, in a very short period of time, could only have happened because of some very special people willing to go the extra mile.  A global effort quickly came together.

In a nutshell:
  • MAJ Shawn Phillips facilitated the effort with Spc. Cherry and his Commaning Officer CSM Little in Iraq.
  • CSM Little picked up the ball.
  • A Wholesale Billiard Company gave us a table at cost and enclosed some "extras" for the troops in the shipment. They wish to remain anonymous but send their support and TLC to the troops.

Nancy Sinatra
Nancy Sinatra helped to bring it together. Thanks Nancy for your continued support of the troops!

Facilitated  request

"CSM Little,

First off, thanks for keeping our men and women safe and doing our nations work.  As a veteran of OIF myself (Formerly Bastogne 4 and 2-327th Infantry "No Slack" S3 and most recently Bastogne 5) I know first hand what it is like.

I have cc'd this message and yours to Ginger Mozzet who heads Operation Support Our Troops who asked me to verify SPC Cherry's request.  Her organization wants to see if they can fulfill the request.  Now that we know the chain of command will support the request, Ginger and her group will start to work on it and see what they can do.

I am happy to help out however I can and hope that we can make this request happen before you all come back or at least set the next group up for success.

GINGER.  Looks like a good request.  Please work with CSM Little to see if you all can make it happen.  Thanks again for all your help, support and love.  Tell everyone I said hi!

MAJ Phillips"

101st ..
I am CSM Little, CSM for 6-101ST GSAB currently stationed in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom IV.  One of my Soldiers, SPC Cherry, emailed you in reference to donating a pool table to our organization.  Sir, each battalion have a MWR facility to make life a little better for the Soldiers.  The MWR consists of telephones, internet, ping pong table, fools ball table, and a pool table which is unserviceable. I would say that at least 450 to 500 Soldiers utilize our facility.  Any assistance you can give us would be greatly appreciated.
 Thanks, CSM KEITH C. LITTLE
